Dear WesleyNexus Colleague:

We at WesleyNexus are working hard to plan of our 5th Evolution Weekend event, which will take place on February 11, 2018 at 3:00 in Fulton Maryland.  So this month’s newsletter will be short and sweet.

Evolution Weekend in Maryland February 11, 2018

Once again, for the fifth year, WesleyNexus will co-sponsor and host an Evolution Weekend program for Maryland on February 11, in a live-streamed event from the Baltimore-Washington Conference Mission Center in Fulton, Maryland. The program, Faith and Science Confront Pain: The Churches address the Opioid Crisis”, will feature an interdisciplinary panel of experts who will provide comprehensive perspectives on a problem that currently kills more Americans each year than the total number of American service men and women who died in the Vietnam war.

Details for the program can be found at http://wesnex.org/event/evolution-weekend/.  From here you will be able to register for the event and print out the flyer to share with others who may wish to attend.  You will also be able to plug in to the live event from this page on the day of the event.

Debbie’s prayers have not been answered. By Tom Oord

The February 4th Cristian Century Living by the Word reflection is by Tom Oord, a frequent participant and lecturer in science and religion.  Tom is a member of our advisory board and we want to share this article now since it focuses on the Common Lectionary reading for that date.  It also is quite relevant to the to the theme of our February 11 event.

You can read Tom’s article here: https://www.christiancentury.org/article/living-word/february-4-epiphany-5b-mark-129-39
